Do Citrus Trees Need Special Soil?

Yes! Citrus trees are picky about their roots. They require well-draining, slightly acidic soil that retains just enough moisture—exactly what our potting soil for citrus trees delivers.

Do Citrus Trees Like Acidic Soil?

Absolutely. Citrus plants prefer soil with a lower pH, which is why our citrus planting soil is blended with composted bark and peat moss to naturally lower the pH and keep your citrus happy.

Citrus Tree Potting Soil Ingredients

  • Peat moss helps retain essential moisture while allowing excess water to drain away.

    FAQs for Citrus Potting Soil

The best soil for citrus trees in pots is a well-draining, slightly acidic mix that retains just enough moisture while preventing root rot. Our Citrus Potting Soil is specially formulated for potted citrus trees with a balanced blend of composted bark, peat moss, and a slow-release 18-6-8 fertilizer. It promotes strong root development and supports healthy growth for lemons, limes, oranges, and more.

To repot a citrus tree, start by gently removing the tree from its current container. Loosen the roots and trim any dead or circling ones. Choose a pot that’s 2–4 inches wider than the current one and fill the bottom with Citrus Tree Potting Soil. Position the tree so the root ball is slightly above the new soil line, then backfill with our citrus soil potting mix, pressing gently to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after repotting and place in a sunny spot.

Citrus fruit trees thrive in soil that is slightly acidic, drains well, and has enough nutrients to support fruit production. Our citrus soil mix is an ideal choice, as it’s specifically designed to create the optimal environment for citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes. It also includes a built-in slow-release fertilizer to support juicy, flavorful fruit.

Potted citrus trees should be watered when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Typically, this means watering once or twice a week, depending on temperature and humidity. Our potting soil for citrus trees is designed to retain the right amount of moisture while allowing excess water to drain, helping to prevent overwatering and root rot.
