Unique Vibrant Red Colors Line this Tree's Branches from Spring to Fall!

The Semi Dwarf Japanese Maple Tree, Acer palmatum atropurpureum, is the perfect small tree! With beautiful burgundy purple foliage and low maintenance qualities, it can enhance any yard or landscape into a colorful oasis. We also have this plant in larger size, it is known as the Bloodgood Japanese Maple Tree.

This small, deciduous tree has purplish red foliage that will emerge in early spring and eventually fades to bright reddish green in the summer. During the fall months, the red color will return once again. Once winter weather hits, the dwarf maple tree will lose its leaves.

The fall foliage makes it a top contender for cottage gardens, city gardens, or Japanese gardens to add a burst of fall color when most other plants are dying back to prepare for winter.

SEMI DWARF JAPANESE MAPLE CARE

Grow the Dwarf Japanese Red Maple tree across the United States in USDA growing zones 5-9. It will perform best in full sun to partial shade, and moist, well draining soil. Be sure to have a regular watering schedule during the first year of planting to establish a strong root system. It is a drought-tolerant tree once established.

Commonly called the Red Emperor Maple, it has an upright growing habit with a slow growth rate. At full maturity, the ornamental tree will reach up to 15 feet tall and wide making it perfect for smaller gardens. The branching growth habit gives it a unique look. It is also deer resistant and attracts pollinators because of the vibrant colors.

Prune dwarf maples in late winter or early spring before bud break so you have the best view of where the branches will grow. Once the tree’s leaves flush out for spring you should not prune anymore. You can fertilize in early spring to encourage healthy growth.
