Pink & White Iconic Hydrangea Blooms in Tree Form

These trees look absolutely amazing in our field right now They will look stunning right now in your yard or around your patio. These gorgeous, hardy Hydrangea trees are 4 to 5 feet tall and may soon become too tall to ship!

Boasting pink and white flowers during the spring and summer growing seasons, the Pinky Winky® Hydrangea Tree is known for putting on a gorgeous display of color!

Proven Winners has done it again with the hydrangea paniculata ‘Pinky Winky’ that is already pruned into a standard tree form. They took the hard work of pruning it into a flowering tree out of it for you. With huge strawberry pink and creamy white cone shaped blooms and dark green foliage, it’s hard not to stare in awe at this impressive tree! The two toned flower panicles will emerge pure white and eventually fade to the ruby pink color throughout the growing season. The unusual flowers have a long bloom time and will open up in mid to late summer and last through fall until the first frost.

Hydrangeas are deciduous trees and will lose their leaves over winter but not before putting out the stunning dried flower heads that transition to a rose color before winter.

Be sure to plant this unique pink hydrangea tree somewhere in the landscape where it can be enjoyed! The ornamental tree looks great planted in front yards, near mailboxes, as accent plants, or even in containers for small garden spaces.

Plant the hydrangea tree in full sun or partial shade just like you would any other hydrangea. It likes to be in a planting spot where there is morning sun and afternoon shade, especially if you live in a warmer climate where the sun can take its toll. The first year of planting will require more frequent watering to establish a strong root system. Don’t be discouraged if you see droopy leaves. That is the plant’s way of telling you it needs water more often and more frequently. Once established, it is drought tolerant.

The best fertilizer for Pinky Winky Hydrangea is a slow release fertilizer that is acidic and will release nutrients to the tree over time. Hydrangeas are acid loving plants so moist, well draining soil that is slightly acidic will work wonders for your new tree! Soil pH does not affect bloom color.

Grow the Pinky Winky Hydrangea tree in most locations in the United States. The USDA grow zones are 3-9 so it is widely adaptable to many locations and is extremely cold hardy.

Pinky Winky Hydrangea Tree Size

The mature size of the Pinky Winky tree is 6-8 feet tall and 4-6 feet wide. It is an excellent choice tree for small gardens or planting sites with little room. The Pinky Winky Hydrangea growth rate is very fast growing – up to 1-3 feet per year. They can gain heights of a few feet especially if fertilizer is applied regularly.

How to Prune Pinky Winky Hydrangea Tree

Pruning is not required but it can help you keep the tree and flower clusters looking neat. Trim the pink and white hydrangea tree to shape for the desired look and size you are going for. Prune away any dead wood or crossed branches. With hydrangea trees, it is best to prune away any lower suckers to keep the plant growing into tree form.

When to Cut Back Pinky Winky Hydrangea Tree

Pinky Winky Hydrangea pruning should take place after the plant has finished flowering in late winter or early spring. Cutting Panicle hydrangeas back during the active spring growing season can risk cutting off the gorgeous flower buds you want to see during spring and summer. Pinky Winky panicle hydrangea blooms on new wood so as soon as spring comes around you can prune back all the old wood from last year to encourage new growth.

Pinky Winky Hydrangea Winter Care

Once the blooms die back in fall and winter you can deadhead the spent blossoms. This will encourage the tree to put more energy into its root system to prepare for winter dormancy. However, some growers like to keep the dried pink flowers on for winter appeal. The leaves and foliage will die back and fall off for winter so you can clean up fallen foliage and throw it away or use it in your compost. Mulch the root zones to protect the roots during winter. It also helps to retain moisture during the warmer spring and summer blooming seasons.

It makes the perfect small tree for your yard! Check out the Hydrangea Grow Guide for more information on growing and cultivating hydrangeas and our blog Why is my Hydrangea Wilting.

Shipping information

Once your Pinky Winky® Hydrangea Tree order is placed, we will ship your plant(s) within seven business days year round unless during the checkout process you request otherwise in the space provided to do so.

Perfect Plants’ shipping specialists carefully package your plants using a proven packaging method that ensures your plants arrive healthy, colorfully alive and ready to flourish. We’ve coined the term ‘upside down box test’ and we do just that; we carefully package so that regardless of the direction your box is handled, it will not harm your precious plant that’s inside.

No shipping process is without a problem from time to time. On rare occasions some plants may experience some of the following during their transit: drooping, minor leaf-loss and/or minimal yellowing/discoloration, minor limb damage, etc. These instances are quite rare, but can happen when shipping plants in boxes.

Plants normally recover within a few weeks after planting. If a damaged box has injured your plant on the inside, please notify us within 5 days of receiving you package(s) by emailing us a photograph of the damage.

We always do our very best to ensure that your plants are packed and shipped in the safest, gentlest and most effective way possible.

Will my plants and trees look like the photographs?

Absolutely! Unlike other online nurseries, our photos are of actual plants and trees we’ve grown here, on our family operated nursery.

Growing our own plants and trees helps to ensure we ship you the best quality plants that are free of pests and diseases.

Your plants and trees may however not ship with flowers on them, like the photographs. This all depends on the time of year you buy your plant or tree. Crape Myrtle trees, for example, only bloom during the summer months, so if you purchase one during the spring or fall, they would ship without flowers. Once planted, your plants will grow and thrive giving you flowers for many years to come!

Pot Sizes

Pot sizes (commonly referred to in gallons) are shipped in the same size nursery trade pots which may vary in actual volume. Some plants may have been at the approximate pot size listed, but require excess dirt to be removed so that you will not be paying any additional shipping costs. This doesn’t happen very often though.

Shipping Fees

Our shipping charges are based on the value of your order and the destination it is being shipped. Please see the chart on the Shipping Info page to get an exact amount. We frequently have a free shipping promotion to help you save!

Choose a planting location that offers adequate sunlight and shade in a low traffic area. Allow proper clearance for the mature growth size. Well-drained soil is ideal. Water regularly for the first planted year to ensure adequate water is available for establishing a strong root system. Prune as necessary to remove any damaged or dead foliage and to promote a well-balanced structure.

Planting Instructions:

Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as your new plant’s root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is equal with the ground level.

Loosen the root ball using a small garden spade or by hand. Breaking smaller outer roots can encourage growth into the new soil, but take care to not damage large primary roots.

Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated evenly upright.  Use the excavated soil to fill in around the root ball, using your foot to pack it in firmly. Thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball as this could kill the plant.

A 2-4 inch layer of mulch is strongly recommended to help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply mulch over the entire planting area but keep away from the stems or trunk by a few inches. Ensure that the plant and surrounding soil is completely soaked with water.

To ensure the proper nutrients are available for the life of your plant our proprietary Perfect Plants Special Blend Soil and a once yearly application of Nutricote Total 360 Fertilizer are great considerations for your new plants!

I was familiar and have seen hydrangea bushes before but I have never seen a pinky winky hydrangea tree in person and ordering one online without being able to physically see it first made it even more difficult. I compared different online vendors and ultimately decided to choose Perfect Plants due to availability (others were sold out), competitive pricing, and size of hydrangea tree they offered (other competitors only offered younger, less mature, and shorter trees under 3ft tall at that time). I purchased one pinky winky hydrangea tree from Perfect Plants in early May 2021 which was delivered well within 5 days (I live in NJ, Zone 7). The tree was very well packaged and arrived healthy with many buds. It is now the end of June and my pinky winky hydrangea tree is thriving and blooming. I receive many compliments from my neighbors and those passing by. The tree itself is an eye catcher and will definitely elevate your landscape. Thank you Perfect Plants for exceeding my expectations!

I purchased two pinky winky hydrangea trees. One came perfectly healthy, the second didn’t do so well, and didn’t make it. However, I called within the three day warranty period and within a few days I had a brand new, extra healthy hydrangea tree shipped to my home. She is thriving and loots spectacular in my garden! So happy with myperfectplants and their customer service. Thanks!

My Pinky Winky Hydrangea Tree arrived well packaged and is beautiful. It will be blooming soon. I’m so glad I got one before they sold out.

Received my trees for my patio and they look great! 4-5ft tall above the soil. No blooms yet in late April, but thats to be expected. Should bloom next month in May.
