Vermiculite Adds Aeration & Moisture Retention to Soil as an Additive

Organic Vermiculite by Perfect Plants is a naturally occurring excavated mineral rock that is mined from caves in Russia, South Africa, China, and Brazil.

Vermiculite for plants comes in a heavy resealable bag with 4 or 8 dry quarts of organic matter. This coarse grade vermiculite soil amendment has large pieces that don’t disintegrate.

WHAT IS VERMICULITE?

There is a difference between perlite vs vermiculite. This vermiculite is a natural hydrous phyllosilicate mineral that does not break down or compost and lasts longer in potting mixes than perlite, which is a volcanic glass that eventually decomposes.

This mineral expands when heated and is commonly used in commercial furnaces. It has the appearance of golden brown flaked nuggets.

This soil additive is the perfect addition to any potted plant or garden soil to help increase aeration within the potting soil. This gives room for the plant’s roots to expand. Allows for proper drainage of excess water especially in containers without drainage holes.

How to Use Vermiculite in the Garden:

Great for use on both indoor and outdoor potted plants. Also makes it excellent for seed germination or starting/rooting new plants. Promotes faster root growth during seed starting due to the ability to perforate the soil and allow room for air, water, and nutrients to penetrate growing roots. Alleviates soil compaction in heavy soils.

This natural vermiculite soil conditioner also helps improve soil moisture retention in potted plants by retaining water where it needs to.

Use vermiculite alone or mixed with peat moss for starting seeds and water retention capabilities. Horticultural grade vermiculite can be used in raised beds, containers, or garden beds to improve the amount of water being distributed to plant’s roots. Helps avoid root rot.

FAQs for Organic Vermiculite for Plants

No, vermiculite itself is not considered organic. It is a naturally occurring mineral that is mined and processed. However, it can be used in organic gardening when combined with other organic materials in a potting mix or compost.

The best vermiculite for plants is typically coarse or medium-grade vermiculite. This size provides better aeration and drainage for plant roots. It is commonly used in gardening and horticulture to improve soil structure and moisture retention.

Yes, vermiculite is safe for organic gardening. It is commonly used as a component in organic potting mixes and soil amendments. However, it is important to ensure that the vermiculite you use is not contaminated with any harmful substances. It is recommended to choose vermiculite from reputable sources or certified organic products.

Plants can grow in vermiculite alone, but it is not recommended as a complete growing medium. Vermiculite is beneficial for retaining moisture and providing aeration, but it lacks essential nutrients required for plant growth. It is best to use vermiculite in combination with other materials like peat moss, compost, or potting soil for optimal plant growth and nutrition.
