Few things do more for a landscape than a well-placed blooming shrub. Whether you're filling a sunny border with colorful bushes, anchoring a shady corner, or adding fragrant flowers that pollinators can't resist — the right flowering shrub pulls a whole yard together. From early spring camellias to fall-blooming encore azaleas, our hand-grown shrubs deliver color across every season. At Perfect Plants, we've been growing beautiful blooming shrubs in North Florida since 1980, and every plant ships straight from our nursery to your door.
Not sure where to start? Confederate Jasmine is one of our most popular choices — its fragrant pinwheel flowers draw pollinators all spring and summer. For pure color, it's hard to beat the Coral Drift Rose, with vibrant blooms from spring through fall. We're big fans of the Little Lime Hydrangea for its full, show-stopping summer blooms in a compact size that works great in containers or small garden spaces.
Early spring gardeners love the Kanjiro Camellia — one of the earliest blooming shrubs we carry — and the Pink Double KnockOut® Rose for abundant pink flowers without a lot of fuss. Looking for a striking border plant? The Red Velvet Elvis Louisiana Iris Shrub stops people in their tracks with deep red flowers against lush green foliage.
Full sun flowering shrubs need at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily — shortchange them and they'll grow leggy with sparse blooms. The good news is that some of the most colorful bushes and shrubs absolutely thrive in bright sun and make outstanding landscaping shrubs for borders, foundations, and fence lines. Sweet Drift Rose, Bridal Wreath Spirea, and Frost Proof Gardenia are three of our go-to picks for sunny spots — reliable, low maintenance, and genuinely beautiful season after season.
Shady spots don't have to mean boring. Many dwarf and full-sized blooming shrubs actually prefer lower light, and forcing a shade lover into full sun does more harm than good. Asiatic Jasmine and Hosta Halcyon are two of our top performers in shaded landscapes — great choices for under a tree canopy or a north-facing bed where other flower bushes struggle.
Every shrub we ship is nursery-grown and ready to go in the ground the day it arrives. A little attention to the basics below will set your plants up for years of healthy blooms.
The USDA divides the country into 13 growing zones based on average minimum winter temperatures. Knowing your zone matters — a blooming shrub that thrives in warm, humid zone 9 won't survive a zone 5 winter. Every plant on our site lists its compatible zones, so you can shop with confidence regardless of where you garden.
Timing your pruning to the bloom cycle makes a real difference in how your shrubs perform the following season. Spring bloomers should be pruned right after their flowers fade. Summer and fall blooming bushes are best cut back in late winter before new growth starts. Prune at the wrong time and you'll remove next year's buds before they ever get a chance.
If deer pressure is a concern in your yard, Sweet Viburnum and Buddleia Nanho Blue Butterfly Bush are two blooming shrubs that deer tend to avoid. No shrub is completely deer proof, but these are reliable choices in areas with heavy deer traffic.
Evergreen flowering shrubs give you structure and color year round — not just during bloom season. Azaleas are the classic choice, offering flowers in red, pink, and white while staying green through winter. They're low maintenance, long-lived perennial shrubs that look genuinely good in all four seasons. Our top picks include the George Taber Azalea, GG Gerbing Azalea, Red Ruffles Azalea, and Autumn Bonfire® Encore® Azalea.
Small flowering shrubs are perfect as foundation plants, container specimens, or accent shrubs where space is tight — a mass planting of small blooming bushes can make as bold a statement as a single large specimen. For larger landscapes, big flowering shrubs bring structure and serious color to the yard. Peach Drift Rose and Red Ruffles Azalea are two of our favorite compact picks, while Fragrant Tea Olive and Zhuzhou Loropetalum are top choices when you need a larger, showier shrub for landscaping.
Dwarf varieties adapt surprisingly well to container growing — the key is matching the plant's sun and zone requirements to where the pot will live. Penny Mac Hydrangea and Camellia High Fragrance are two of our favorites for pots, producing full, showy blooms without outgrowing their space.
